Getting Started

step 1
Obtain Transcript Evaluation: Contact the site coordinator to have an unofficial transcript evaluation done.

step 2
Apply for Admission: Complete admissions application and financial aid forms.

OPTION 1—BY MAIL
Complete and return the admissions application along with the $50 nonrefundable application fee to: Office of Admissions and Records, Portland State University, PO Box 901, Portland OR 97207-0901. Request official transcripts from all institutions you have attended. Transcripts should be sent directly from the institution(s) to the Portland State University Office of Admissions and Records at the above address.

OPTION 2—ON THE WEB
There is an electronic admissions application available on the Portland State web page (http://banweb.pdx.edu). Complete the electronic application, and Portland State will bill you for the $50 application fee. Don't forget to request your official transcripts from all institutions you have attended.

OPTION 3—QUICK ENTRY
You may enroll for eight credits or fewer as a Quick Entry student without being formally admitted to Portland State (www.ess.pdx.edu/adm/quickentryadmission.htm). Please note: Quick Entry status does not qualify you for financial aid.

step 3
Register for Classes: You have the option to register for classes on the Web or by a special registration form.

OPTION 1—ON THE WEB
Access http://banweb.pdx.edu. Select “PSU Information System.” Follow step-by-step instructions. (User ID is your Social Security number, and your PIN is your birthdate.)

OPTION 2—SPECIAL REGISTRATON FORM
Ask your site coordinator to assist you in completing this form. She will then forward it for you to Registration and Records.

step 4
Pay tuition using one of three options:

OPTION 1—PAY IN FULL AT TIME OF REGISTRATION
Payment can be made by check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard).

OPTION 2—REVOLVING ACCOUNT METHOD
This method allows you to pay your tuition in three installments. It includes a small handling fee and interest. The form needs to be completed each term you plan to use the revolving account. Portland State will bill you on the first of each month. You can go to the online form or request one from the site coordinator.

OPTION 3—FINANCIAL AID
If you are receiving financial aid, your outstanding tuition and any fees must be paid before you receive your financial aid check.

Financial Aid Forms: Financial aid is based on need and the number of credits you are taking. Ask the site coordinator for an application, including appropriate filing deadlines. Forms are also available online (www.ess.pdx.edu/fao). Students awarded financial aid must be fully admitted for the term(s) for which the aid is intended.

Direct Deposit: To eliminate the commute downtown to pick up your financial aid check, it is recommended that students enrolled in off-site programs use direct deposit. Direct deposit places your financial aid directly into your bank account. Ask your site coordinator for the form.

step 5
Purchase Textbooks: Textbooks are available at each off-campus site and online. Books are available the first week of the term at Portland State at PCC Rock Creek. Books for the Salem Center are available at the Chemeketa Community College Bookstore; and books for Portland State at MHCC are available at the MHCC bookstore. Portland State books are also available to purchase online through the PSU Bookstore.
