Contract Graphic Services: Request for Proposals
Portland State University School of Extended Studies invites applications for contracted graphic design, production, and illustration services. We will award multiple contracts, not to exceed $13,000 each, for assigned activities from, and on behalf of, the Extended Studies Print and Web group through June 30, 2008.
Candidates must have five years of experience in graphic design and production of high quality, one- to four-color publications and website graphics using current desktop and graphics software. Ability to work with service bureaus, printers, and demanding clients in a fast-paced environment is essential.
Awardees work independently off-campus with limited direction and potentially tight schedules. Projects can include working within existing graphic standards and templates; designing and producing new promotional materials; creating new logos, icons, maps, illustrations, and website graphics; and revising existing publications. Occasionally, on-site consultations are required. Portland State University School of Extended Studies will own the products made under this contract.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five years graphic design and production experience
- Ability to meet deadlines and to adjust production schedules
- Demonstrated experience producing one-, two-, and four-color printed promotional communications (brochures, catalogs, posters, display ads, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience preparing files for service bureaus and printers.
- Demonstrated experience using latest InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and word-processing programs
- Demonstrated understanding of typography
- Willingness to work within existing design templates using specified fonts when necessary
- Experience with scanning and manipulating images
- Willingness to make changes as specified by clients
- Proficiency in client communications skills, and willingness to meet personally with clients if necessary
- Detail-oriented, organized, and dependable
- Experience developing web graphics
Required HW/SW
- Macintosh platform running OS 10.4+
- CD-RW drive
- Email connection that allows large file transfers
- Creative Suite 3.0 (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, ImageReady, etc.)
- MS Word
- Access to an image scanner (at least medium quality)
- 720 dpi (or higher) inkjet printer, large format preferred
- Fax
Applicants must submit a cover letter discussing the above qualifications; a resume; three client references; contacts for three printers who have printed jobs for the applicant; a rate/fee schedule for design, production, illustration, and alterations; and three printed samples (one each of one-, two-, and four-color designs, including copies of the original electronic InDesign files on CD). We will not consider files converted into InDesign from QuarkXpress. Enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope for return of submitted materials.
Materials must be delivered in person or postmarked no later than 5pm, Monday, June 18, 2007.
